Olympians had great influence on the people who worshipped them.  Heroes also had huge influence to the people like Greeks who worshipped them.  Prometheus had brought fire to humankind, but Prometheus was greatly tortured for that influence to humankind.   The Greeks thought that anyone was great at anything that a God must have influenced that person on that subject.
